Lost in the fog
It's funny I was talking to a "still in for now" friend who said that he was disgusted by the WT study yesterday.
He was moaning that it was all if you don't do such and such your name can be rubbed out, you're in but not guaranteed to win etc, etc. His objection was that when he reads the New Testament all of the Christian writers were assured and certain of their reward, none of this wishy-washy approach.
It was refreshing to hear him because I figure that it won't be long until he decides enough is enough and walks.

I`m going out on a limb here ! ....PIMO
by smiddy3 inpimo , as i said i`m going out on a limb here and i might upset some people ,but i really don`t think this is a real strategy that works and doesn`t help the person who is still in.. while you may be doing this to keep the peace in the household and keep relations somewhat stable in the family arrangement ,it`s not helping the person who is still under the control of wt/gb to break free from it ,and isn`t that what you would really like to happen ?.
and are their children involved as well ?
that`s another issue ,the longer they are subject to this control the harder it will be for them to disengage get free.. maybe you should re-evaluate what you could do more to help your partner / spouse or whatever to free themselves from this bondage they have involved themselves in.. [ of course their may be others who are quite happy to have their partners/mates under the control of the wt/gb.

I personally found that being PIMO led to mental illness. Every time I went back to the congregation I wanted to scream out "Hypocrites, Liars" because nothing made logical sense to me anymore. The only way to stop myself having a total breakdown was to withdraw myself completely and choose POMO.
Whatever path you personally decide to choose I wish you the best now and into the future...

Red Flags identifying Jehovah's Witnesses as a Cult
by Vanderhoven7 inwhat are some of the red flags that should alert people to the fact that jehovah's witnesses are a high control and damaging religion?.
one that comes to mind is.
1. one cannot leave jehovah's witnesses with one's reputation intact.

Don't forget that if you express a genuine serious concern you will immediately be labelled as a troublemaker because you are NOT ALLOWED to question anything said either from the platform or in print from the Faithful Slabber, no matter how ridiculous or made up it appears to be.
One way to quickly find yourself in the backroom facing an inquisition by 3 or more unqualified elders is to respond to questions about your recent criticism of an item you heard from the platform and orally expressed as stupid in front of several of your peers: is to go with 4 simple little words.... "Go F**k Yourselves Brothers".

Alcohol Consumption—How Can You Stay in Control?
by Lost in the fog inso i was doing some research for a community group which i belong to as we are going to present information in the run up to christmas about the dangers of overindulgence in alcoholic beverages.. anyway while googling information i spotted that the jw(dot)org website had a recent item on the subject and decided to be nosey as to the advice the wackos were giving out these days.. here's an actual quote from their website page - "try this: if you are concerned about your drinking habits, pray to god for help.
ask him for strength and self-control.
and take time to discover the practical wisdom found in his word, the bible.

So I was doing some research for a community group which I belong to as we are going to present information in the run up to Christmas about the dangers of overindulgence in alcoholic beverages.
Anyway while googling information I spotted that the JW(dot)org website had a recent item on the subject and decided to be nosey as to the advice the wackos were giving out these days.
Here's an actual quote from their website page - "Try this: If you are concerned about your drinking habits, pray to God for help. Ask him for strength and self-control. #
And take time to discover the practical wisdom found in his Word, the Bible. With him on your side, you can stay in control of your alcohol consumption.
# If you cannot control your drinking, you may also need to seek professional help."
So as expected the usual crap about praying to God and asking him to make everything better for you. But then the # footnote caught my eye. They actually allow their members nowadays to seek professional help if they cannot stop drinking!! As that will likely mean a referral by a medical practitioner to a 12 step process group such as Alcoholics Anonymous I was surprised that they said it.
I'm the past any question of joining an AA group with their surrendering to a higher power for a JW was a very BIG no-no!
Have they changed direction on this? Or is it a case that suggestion to get professional help comes after the person has been DF-ed for drunkenness and/or lack of self-control!?
[ Another POMO friend has suggested that maybe it's in the WTB&TS article because perhaps 'AM the 3rd' has been sent by the rest of the GB to a secluded retreat somewhere so he can be dried out from all his bottles of Scotch. Lol. ]

1975 selling of houses
by Paul Bonanno inas 1975 was approaching, many witnesses sold their property.
do you know about specific cases that are willing to share their experience of doing so?.

May 22, 1969 Awake! magazine. If this wasn't an obvious directly worded comment about 1975 I don't know what is...
Witness youths: “If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish, if not actually gone! "

I know of a congregation that went ahead with land purchase for a new Kingdom Hall on the grounds that they wouldn't have to worry about paying back the loan because Armageddon was coming in 18 months afterwards in (they reckoned) September 1975.
Unfortunately Armageddon didn't come and they struggled for around 2 decades paying back the money borrowed at quite a high interest rate.

New rules for inactive ones?
by Lynnie inhave the rules changed as far as disfellowshipping inactive ones when it's clear they are engaged in "wrongdoing?".
i have a cousin in seattle who was disfellowshipped about 3 years ago or so and then went through the process of being reinstated (took only 6 months) and then proceeded to fade and do nothing regarding the jw's .
fast forward to today and now she's had a baby out of wedlock and the uber jw elder father and mother are all on board somehow.

I have seen similar in the past. I think it often comes down to local elders in each congregation.
Case 1: I know of a brother who was presiding overseer whose daughter married outside of the "truth", and who paid for the honeymoon. Based on the elder's book this would have called his qualifications into question. But because he was pally with the circuit overseer nothing happened.
Fast forward to a year or so ago. The previous elder is no longer the presiding overseer because of age and ill health. Another elder in the same congregation let his daughter marry a man she met at work. Resulting in a committee being formed and his family being investigated, and restrictions placed on them, and the elder being demoted down to a ministerial servant.
Another case: two single baptised people came forward and admitted to "heavy petting" during dating. They were in 2 different congregations. Congregation 1 restricted their publisher for 6 months. Congregation 2 disfellowshipped their publisher. Both said the same story. Different elders with separate personalities and different perceptions. Oh and by the way, at the time, the congregation that disfellowshipped their publisher was run by the elder whose story began this post!

3, 4, 17, 19. We were able to do these 4 things.
Guess some areas were stricter than others.
